Thing 7

I need a new camera!!!! I was so inspired by the pictures that I saw on flickr. Using this site is so easy. I really wish that I had some good photos to download. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarowen/424185831/sizes/s/

Thing 6

I went right to Im Cooked and found very simple easy to follow videos about cooking simple foods that I would want to make. Unlike TV where the viewer is at the mercy of the TV schedule, I can go there and look up almost anything at any time. I watched Christopher Walken roast a chicken and pears and I wanted to join right in with him. (He usually scares me, he is a very convincing actor.) I think that a Home Ec class or whatever they are called now could really benefit from these videos, especially showing guys cooking and showing guys how to cook. I also checked out Revolution Health and signed up for 6 helpful sounding newsletters. The site appears to be a good way to get up to date health information in easy to understand terms.

Thing 5

As I was reading the various articles about Web 2.0, I was at first so excited about all the possibilities and then overwhelmed at how far behind in technology I have become. I attended college in the early 80's and never touched a computer. Somewhere in our house, we still have a typewriter! I love being able to search for information on the Internet and not have to thumb through book after book. I do not know how to tell whether I can believe all the information out there (but that is also true about the TV news). I am not a teacher but I can see the need in the schools of tomorrow for everyone to have a laptop available during all school hours and not just on "computer days". I think that the future availability of reading any book online is fantastic and will really help me at home since I have no more space for books in my house. I think that the image of the mousy librarian is going to change in a major way and he or she will become a very important computer resource, as in how and where to find things...not that they would be replaced by a computer. I think that by utilizing the computer in the classroom, learning will take place much more rapidly and hopefully we can have a much more educated society.

Thing 4

I enjoyed reading all of the suggested sites because all of this is so new to me. I need all the help that I can get. For over 20 years, most of the writing that I did was hospital charting...just the facts,ma'am. My emails also did not require much soul searching. These exercise blogs should help me start thinking again.Commenting on other blogs is important because it connects you to other people with similar interests and opinions. Commenting also connects you to people with very different interests and opinions. Much can be learned from others that you would never have a chance to meet face to face. I get a feeling of connectedness both from commenting and from receiving comments. Life today is so fast that it is hard to have a decent conversation anymore but blogging and commenting is giving me the human connection that I am missing on some days. I left a comment on Tara Johnson's blog, Summer Marshall's blog, Kathie Terry's blog,A Teacher's Summer, Wendy's Wandering,FoodNetworkAddict,WeLoveIrishDancing. I am more encouraging and less opinionated in my comments. I have a hard time putting myself out there and would not want someone stepping all over my thoughts.

Thing 3

I believe that I registered my blog. I really hope that I did because I am getting hung up on doing things in order and then moving on. I am amazed by all that I have learned so far in this class. Before our computer was used for email (which my son set up)and word processing (mainly for the kids classroom projects). Oh, and for Zuma and Tetris. I would love to start a blog where questions and comments could be posted about how to get my work done better (quicker, more easily) in the school clinic. Our nurse mentor had retired and was not replaced last year and since I was new, I felt that I was just bobbing around on the deep blue sea...all alone. :( I know that there are many helpful people out there, sometimes you just do not know what to ask. I also think that a blog would be great for any book study, I am currently taking a Bible study at church and would love to share thoughts and questions on a blog.

Thing 2

I decided on my posting name because I wanted to go simple after I had messed up so much on my earlier attempts. I named my blog after so many others' blogs with their nice alliteration. After I figured out what I was doing, the creation of the blog was fun and easy. The instructions are very easy to follow but not so easy to undo if you get too far and don't like what you've done. I wanted my avatar to be a school nurse (which I am, having survived my first year in an extremely busy clinic). I am very proud of my accomplishments for the year. my avatar is much better looking than I am. Maybe she can inspire me to go exercise.

Thing 1

I have put this off long enough that I was completely dreading it. I enjoyed the pointers from lifelong learners. The easiest for me would be habit 7 and 1/2 because I love to read and agree that reading is a great way to learn on your own. The hardest habit for me would be #3, viewing problems as challenges, because I can get pretty frustrated. I got very frustrated creating my blog because I did not read all the instructions before starting and made a big mess that I just deleted. I want to learn from this class how to keep up with everyone else on the computer. The computer and I are not good friends...yet!
